Assistance for Charities and Community Groups and Volunteering

Upon election in September 2017 as a Councillor with the City of Canada Bay Council I committed to raise funds for charity and community groups during my term of office.

In the community and at my workplace I have honored this commitment and organised events raising tens of thousands of dollars.

Some have been small donations and others more substantial contributions to charitable causes.

The charities and community groups that have benefited from these efforts include-

  • Dandelion Support Network

  • St Paul’s Anglican Church

  • Children’s Medical Research Institute

  • Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics

  • Touched by Olivia Foundation Ltd

  • Rhodes Multicultural Community Association

  • City of Canada Bay Historical Society

  • Willmot Community Hub

  • Mortlake and Majors Bay Resident Action Group

  • Rhodes Bushfire Appeal-Red Cross and WIRES

  • Ebenezer Mission Inc

  • Generous and Grateful

I recently collected 500 bottles and cans and handed them over to Paul from the Ebenzer Mission to assist him with a recycling project he is involved with.

I am now introducing him to some local cafes and restaurants in the Canada Bay Council area to fast track his fundraising efforts. Ebenzer Mission is a local charity that does so much to help clients with intellectual disabilities.

The team at The Generous and the Grateful connect with vulnerable people in need and make donations of great preloved items. When you can get a good night's sleep, have food safe in a fridge and wear clean clothes to school, work or interviews, then you have a much better chance of rebuilding your life. We were pleased recently to raise over $4,000.00 for this great charity.

With the support of a number of local residents and community groups a Rhodes Bushfire Appeal was organized. More then 170 residents attended a trivia night at Bare Witness Restaurant at Rhodes . With the support of attendees and local business $15,000.00 was raised for the Red Cross and WIRES.

I was pleased to participate in helping to raise a small contribution to the great work of Dandelion Support Network. Dandelion last year helped 1645 families in need. Thanks and congratulations to Dandelion for your tireless community work.

Congratulations to St Paul’s Anglican Church for receiving a cheque for over $4000, which will help those sleeping rough and the growing number of homeless people.

In May I hosted a charity lunch for the Lord Mayor of Parramatta Andrew Wilson to share his Vision for the City of Parramatta and raised $3,300.

I joined Lord Mayor Andrew Wilson to donate this small contribution to the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

I was pleased to raise a donation for the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics. Angelman syndrome is a neurological disorder caused by a missing section of chromosome 15. Common characteristics include intellectual disability, delayed speech or no speech at all, jerky walking style and happy demeanour. Hopefully we have made a small contribution to help find a cure for this disease.

Touched by Olivia and Variety - the Children’s Charity focuses on supporting children with disabilities. I was humbled to assist and made a small contribution from a workplace lunch of $2000 to support this great charity.

The Rhodes Multicultural Community Association has been invaluable in the local community teaching English to newly arrived migrants to the City of Canada Bay. It was only a small donation but well received by the RMCA.

It took 12 months to collect 2,000 cans, plastic & glass bottles from local streets and from my office.

It was only a small donation from my recycling efforts but the smile and laugh of the volunteers at the City of Canada Bay Historical Society was sufficient reward.

The contribution of $4,200 to the Willmot Community Hub will help some of the most needy on our community. This is an area of great social disadvantage. It was so inspiring to meet locals working so hard to build community organisation and enhance the dignity of local residents
