Message From Andrew Ferguson

I was elected in 2017 as a Councillor on the City of Canada Bay Council.

I have lived in the Canada Bay Council area for more then 35 years and am dedicated to making our local area an even better place to live and work.

Presently I live in Mortlake but have previously lived in Rhodes, Concord and Breakfast Point. 

My children went to school locally and played soccer with Concord Juniors. I love the area and know with strong representation from elected Councillors and the community we can make make Canada Bay even better.

I am interested in issues of better urban design and planning, tree canopy, access and inclusion concerns, equity, housing affordability, social justice and environmental sustainability . However if your concern is a damaged footpath, a trip hazard or a pot hole in a road it is given priority.

In recent years our council was subject to an ICAC investigation and Inquiry. The end result was the sacking of the Mayor by the NSW Minister for Local Government. This scandal has created great reputational damage to our council.

I am committed to ensuring that the corrupt practices recently exposed do not resurface.

I made the decision to nominate for Mayor of our great council in the 2024 elections.

I received 49.1% of the vote and missed out on election for Mayor by 416 votes. Unfortunately many Green voters in the Mayoral ballot paper did not preference and when Green candidate Charles Jago was eliminated (lowest Mayor vote) from the contest many of his supporters did not vote 2 for me. The end result was Liberal Michael Megna narrowly won the vote for Mayor. If I had been elected Mayor Charles Jago would have had a term as Deputy Mayor and Canada Bay would have a more progressive council. Many Green voters need to understand the importance of always preferrencing.

We need to Put Residents First and concentrate on core business. I am committed to tackling waste, improving council efficiency and focussing on core business expected by constituents. I will work closely with CouncillorsMaria Cirillo and David Mansford to ensure a better deal for residents.
